Selection of Petaloid type Male Sterile Lines with Petal color in Carrots

Abstract

|
This experiment was carried out to breed promising petaloid type male sterile (MS) lines with high seed-production ability and with white flower, and to investigate efficient selection methods for carrot MS lines. Segregation of flower color and the seed-production ability of MS lines classified by flower color were tested. Petaloid type MS lines with white flowers showed higher seed yield than MS lines with green flowers. Segregation of flower color was much complicated. And to breed MS lines with white flower, it is considered that selection of lines with higher frequency of white flower in the progeny seems efficient.
